In a video posted to X, OpenAI showed a square-shaped device with several buttons, and said, "Your favorite Codex shortcuts are getting an upgrade." The device, called Codex Micro, is set to launch on July 15, 2026. Codex Micro is a compact input device created specifically for Codex, OpenAI's AI coding assistant that helps developers write, debug and navigate code using natural language prompts. Also, the device has been developed in collaboration with Work Louder, a company known for mechanical keyboards and macro pads with mappable keys, dials and switches. The silhouette shown in the teaser closely resembles Work Louder's existing Creator Micro 2, a macro pad with 13 mechanical switches, a joystick and a touch sensor for assigning custom shortcuts.
